Glyptoteket houses a collection of sculptures, antique art and even mummies, exhibited in the most beautiful architectural settings. The museum is worth a visit just for its impressive interior itself with marble floors, pillars, winter garden and roof terrace.
The art collection is world class and it is atmospheric to walk among the marble sculptures in the great halls and through the Egypt exhibition with hieroglyphs and mummies in mysterious rooms with dim lighting. Take a break in the stunning winter garden café that forms the heart of the building. In summer season the museum’s roof terrace is a lovely space to hang out, offering one of Copenhagen’s best views.
On Tuesdays admission to the museum is free, except for special exhibitions and the roof terrace.

The Glyptotek is located next to Tivoli and the central station. The exhibitions consist of more than 10,000 works of art – mainly from ancient Mediterranean cultures as well as Danish and French sculpture and painting from the 19th century. It was industrial magnate Carl Jacobsen who, with the earnings from his brewery (Carlsberg), created the fantastic collection of art that he donated to the public in 1888, and founded Glyptoteket. The brewer donated a lot of art to Copenhagen, with The Little Mermaid as the most famous piece.

Glyptoteket er en stor samling skulpturer, antik kunst og selvom mumier, udstillet i de smukkeste arkitektoniske rammer. Museet er et besøg værd kun for dets majestætiske interiør med marmorgulve, søjler, vinterhave og tagterrasse.
Kunstsamlingen er i verdensklasse og det er meget atmosfærisk at gå rundt blandt marmorkroppe i de store haller og gennem Ægypten udstillingen med hieroglyffer og mumier i mystiske rum med dæmpet belysning. Tag en pause i cafeen i den fantastiske vinterhave i hjertet af bygningen. I sommersæson er museets tagterrasse et dejligt pusterum med én af Københavns bedste udsigter.
Tirsdage er gratis adgang til museet, undtaget særudstillinger og tagterrassen.

Glyptoteket ligger ved siden af Tivoli og Hovedbanegården. Udstillingerne består i over 10.000 kunstværker -hovedsageligt af kunst fra antikkens middelhavskulturer samt dansk og fransk skulptur og maleri fra 1800-tallet. Det var industrimagnaten Carl Jacobsen som med indtjeningen fra sit bryggeri (Carlsberg) skabte den fantastiske samling kunst som han i 1888 forærede til offentligheden, og som blev til Glyptoteket. Bryggeren har sat stor kunstnerisk præg på København, dels ved at bekoste skulpturer i byen, med Den Lille Havfrue som den mest berømte.
